Sofia Kaliarnta is currently a PhD candidate in the Technology, Policy and Management Faculty (Philosophy Section) at Delft University of Technology. Her PhD project “Moral emotions and risk politics” is part of a greater VIDI-project, supervised by Prof. Dr. Sabine Roeser. In her current project she will conduct a comparative study of the role of moral emotions in existing models of risk politics, with the aim to investigate to what extent do and can existing models for political decision making about risks include moral emotions.
Sofia has obtained a BA in Psychology (with minors in philosophy and education) from the University of Ioannina, Greece. She has then continued her studies at Maastricht University where she graduated with honors from the ‘Media Culture’ MA programme. She then enrolled in the “Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology” MPhil research programme at Maastricht University, with a focus on Science and Technology Studies. In her Master’s thesis, “Virtual community care: How IVF-patients seek information and support in online medical communities”, she examined the role of online medical communities regarding patient information and support by creating a comparative analysis of the participation of Dutch and Greek IVF patients in online medical communities.
