Now we’re looking for a postdoc in applied ethics: moral responsibility for algorithmic decision making in transport and social planning.

Job description

The research project aims at examining ethical aspects of machine learning algorithms in transport and social planning. What is an ethically responsible development and use of machine learning algorithms in these areas? What responsibility do system developers have? The individual programmer? What is the responsibility of the user? When is it justifiable to use such technologies in decision making? What types of decisions should definitely not be covered? What responsibility do authorities have? In many AI/ machine learning situations there companies or authorities become customers to algorithm developing companies. This creates a chain of responsibility that requires needs to be understood. In addition to responsibilities, the development and use of AI/machine learning algorithms raises relating to personal integrity and information security, the responsibility for upholding these also need examining.

Doctoral degree is a requirement, as well as good English. Applicants should have a strong background in moral philosophy, preferably applied ethics, have demonstrated the ability to publish in international peer review systems, and be strongly motivated. Previous research on moral responsibility is important. As the project involves collaboration with researchers from other disciplines, it is important to have good communication skills.
